Proposal Information

Description:

Waste Reduction Outreach Program Assistant will assist the Waste Reduction & Recycling Outreach and Education section. This internship will provide hands-on experience developing public-facing educational materials, supporting digital communication efforts, and assisting with outreach projects to help New York Residents learn about the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Daily Tasks:
* Writing newsletter articles highlighting Waste Reduction and Recycling programs
* Assisting in the creation of video storyboards and supporting the development of Materials Management outreach videos
* Helping to prepare educational materials on Waste Reduction and Recycling for public events and school programs
* Collaborating with other sections within the Division to promote proper waste management practices across New York State
* Supporting outreach campaigns that address statewide priorities in the State Solid Waste Management Plan
* Developing and updating content for DEC's Waste Reduction and Recycling web pages
* Performing project-based tasks as needed

Work will be both independent and collaborative, with opportunities to contribute creative ideas to improve DEC's waste reduction and recycling outreach efforts.

Typical Hours and Days of Operation:
Intern hours are flexible, depending on class schedules or project needs. This is a remote internship from January 20 -May 8, 2026 (start date, end date, and hours required are flexible). Typical work hours are Monday-Friday 7:30-3:30pm. Required hours should be completed during that time. Must have a computer/laptop to work remotely.

The internship may include occasional field work to support video filming, site visits, and in person outreach events if applicant is located in the capital region.
