The New York State Department of Public Service (DPS or Department) works to: ensure safe, affordable, and reliable access to electric, gas, steam, water, and telecommunications services at just and reasonable rates for New York State customers, protect the natural environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions via transmission and siting of renewable energy resources, and augment the resiliency of utility infrastructure.

The Data Science & Analytics Intern will work in the Office of Energy System Planning & Performance (ESPP) and will perform duties that include but are not limited to the following:
* Extracting data from filings of varying formats (e.g., PDF, XLSX, CSV).
* Cleaning data to ensure accuracy and consistency, remove duplicates, handle missing values, and correct errors.
* Organizing data into structured formats suitable for analysis using tools like Excel or programming languages such as Python.
* Performing initial data analysis to spot trends, patterns, and anomalies.
* Creating charts, graphs, and dashboards using tools like Tableau or Power BI to visualize data findings.
* Assisting in ongoing projects by providing data-driven insights that can influence decision-making processes.
* Documenting methodologies, findings, and processes for future reference or for team knowledge sharing.
* Attending team meetings to understand project goals and contribute insights from data analysis.
* Providing feedback on data processes and suggesting improvements or new approaches for data handling and analysis.
* Researching current trends in data analytics, particularly those relevant to the energy industry.
* Analyzing data flows to identify areas for efficiency improvements.

Skills:

Strong communication skills

Experience/Knowledge of Tableau/Python

Experience/Knowledge of PowerBI, Excel
