Proposal Information

Description:

The New York State Department of Public Service (DPS or Department) works to: ensure safe, affordable, and reliable access to electric, gas, steam, water, and telecommunications services at just and reasonable rates for New York State customers, protect the natural environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions via transmission and siting of renewable energy resources, and augment the resiliency of utility infrastructure.

The Consumer Outreach and Education intern will assist the Office of Consumer Services in the Long Island Office (LIO) with developing an outreach & education plan to increase awareness of the Department and LIO's oversight of LIPA/PSEG LI. Specific outreach is performed to utility customers, community groups, stakeholder groups, and elected officials, with particular focus on Disadvantaged Communities and Bi-Lingual Communities. The intern will assist in increasing awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities, financial assistance programs available to consumers, and LIPA/PSEG LI's initiatives. The intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

* Developing a plan to increase outreach contacts and events.
* Identifying groups/individuals with the purpose to create new contacts and secure new events.
* Tracking and report on progress of outreach events.
* Developing PowerPoint presentations for public outreach presentations.
* Developing new and enhancing existing outreach materials.
* Meeting with the public, community groups, and local government officials.
* Assisting OCS staff at public events, including but not limited to setting up for events and staffing public

Preferred skillsets and experience include public policy; political science; business; bilingual studies (Spanish, French Creole, Italian, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese).
