JOB TITLE: Student Assistant

SALARY GRADE: NS

NEGOTIATING UNIT: PEF (PS&T)

RATE OF PAY: $23.00/Hour

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary/Hourly

JURISTICTIONAL CLASS: Competitive

WORK LOCATION: Albany, NY

PROGRAM AREA: Counsel

WORKING HOURS: Between the hours of 8:00AM - 5:00 PM*

TRAVEL PERCENTAGE: N/A

TELECOMMUTING INFORMATION: Initially positions work full-time in the office and a hybrid telecommuting schedule of up to 50% remote work can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview.

*NOTE: Qualifying candidates must be available to work part-time through the end of the current semester and full-time, 37.5 hours per week once the current semester ends. It is anticipated that candidates will begin full-time employment mid to late May.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Currently enrolled in a law school, pursuing a JD or LLM
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks, in a fast-paced environment.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

An interest in public sector and education law

DUTIES DESCRIPTION:

Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Provide legal advice to HESC's Executive Staff, managers, and administrators on issues that impact HESC's mission and student financial aid programs
2. Work with agency staff to prepare legal documents such as contracts, MOUs, and agreements with third parties
3. Monitor, track, evaluate, and provide advice on legislative and regulatory matters
4. Draft bills and regulations
5. Research and respond to inquiries from legislative staff regarding constituents
6. Assist the Secretary to the HESC Board of Directors in preparing for Board meetings, preparing minutes of meetings, making presentations to the Board, etc.
7. Provide support to the agency Records Access Officer in tracking, processing, and responding to FOIL requests on behalf of the agency; and
8. Provide support to the agency Ethics Officer, as necessary.
9. Perform other duties as assigned
