Environmental Engineering Technician 1 (Monitoring & Field Interns - 2 Positions)

Monitoring and Assessment Field Interns (2) will assist DOW staff with the following tasks:

Collect and generate high-quality water quality and biological data that is central to the function of DOW's Monitoring and Assessment Section and to the assessment and listing process. The Lake Monitoring intern will work with experienced staff to prepare field equipment and collect, manage, and analyze data on lake water quality and aquatic ecology. The data collected as part of this internship will help inform management strategies to protect and improve water quality.

Conduct stream and river surveys to support DOW's mission to assess and protect water resources across NYS. These efforts inform NYS's biennial Integrated Reports under the Clean Water Act Sections 305(b) and 303(d) and is critical in contributing to applied research efforts to understand and manage aquatic ecosystems. Interns will engage in a variety of hands-on activities, including field sampling preparation, and collection and analysis of macroinvertebrate, water quality, and physical habitat data.
