Description:
The State Superfund Bureau within Division of Environmental Remediation (DER) would benefit from the inclusion of an intern from the Green Corps SUNY Internship program. The intern would be involved in many projects incorporating Green and Sustainable Remediation (GSR) as well as climate resiliency into DER's projects and work flow. Projects could include:
Writing a periodic GSR newsletter which will highlight how GSR is being incorporated as part of DER policy as well as within specific projects;
Writing social medial posts that focus on how GSR and climate resiliency is being incorporated into projects within DER;
Tracking Greenhouse Gas metrics (including analyzing and reviewing metrics from SiteWise, SEFA or a comparable technology) for projects implemented using State Superfund money;
Assistance in developing and testing a GSR dashboard to track GSR implementation across DER Sites;
Reviewing work plans for State Superfund projects and suggesting best management practices that can be implemented in order to meet GSR goals;
Writing and/or reviewing climate resiliency plans.
The selected candidate would be encouraged to visit specific sites which are involved with the above projects. The candidate would learn how State-lead superfund sites are managed and see how GSR, climate resiliency, and best management practices are incorporated into the project during all phases. The candidate would be involved with projects that include sites during all phases of remediation including remedial investigation, remedial design, construction, and site management to learn how the division implements site cleanup.
