Proposal Information

Description:

The Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve (HRNERR) seeks to accept interns to assist with environmental monitoring within the Hudson River Estuary. By participating in this internship, you will gain experience with standard protocols used to collect water quality, nutrient, and weather data. Interns may learn methods to process water samples for in-house analysis under supervision of laboratory staff.

This position may support the following tasks: How to safely store, handle, and dispose of chemicals, clean glassware, and prepare chemical reagents. Students may learn how to calibrate, deploy, and clean water quality monitoring instruments. Interns may also assist in other activities to contribute to the goals of the System-Wide Monitoring Program.

Other potential internship duties include assisting with elevation surveys in marshes, data entry, and assisting with laboratory protocols (filtering and weighing, routine laboratory safety checks, etc.). Interns will assist in monthly preparation activities (labeling of sample bottles, preparation of filters, etc.). Eligible applicants must be comfortable working in and around water, in all weather conditions, and are able to lift up to 50lbs.
