Description:
The intern will assist engineers, geologists, and other technical staff with a variety of tasks in the office and in the field, including the following:
1. Co-review of technical documents for completeness and conformance to regulations, which may include permit applications, dredge sampling plans, fill transport notifications, and sampling results.
2. Maintain and update data, which includes but not limited to, updating databases, annual report data entry, and conversion of paper records into electronic records. Additionally, the waste flow on Long Island may be evaluated for one or more waste streams, and the related reports prepared.
3. Participate in environmental monitoring of waste management facilities which will include:
a. Accompanying staff to field inspections, and assist with the evaluation of compliance through offsite and onsite observations.
b. Collection of samples, including physical analysis of fill contents.
c. Preparation of related reports for information gathered.
The maximum duration of the internship is 375 hours or 10 weeks. Hours and days will be 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (slight variation allowed), Monday to Friday.
Engineering candidates must be pursuing a degree in one of the following: Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Forest Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Paper Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Soil and Water Resources Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
Geology candidates must be pursuing a degree in one of the following: earth science, engineering geology, environmental geology, environmental geosciences, geochemistry, geological engineering, geology, geological science, geophysics, or hydrogeology.
