Description:
As an intern in the Office of Regulatory Economics at the Department of Public Service, a student would participate in work related to the economic or statistical aspects of regulatory issues, including but not limited to the development of economically efficient rate designs and price signals, economic forecasts, transitioning of wholesale and retail utility markets, measurement and mitigation of market power, incentive regulation, benefit cost analysis, measurement of marginal costs, and the development of market rules and market design changes.
Specifically, the intern would be involved in gathering relevant information, including economic data, from within the Department, utility companies, other government agencies, and private sector sources. The intern would assist in analyzing data and developing statistical, econometric, or economic analysis using relevant models and drawing on knowledge of statistical, econometric, and/or economic theory. Such analysis might include one or more of the following, the development of econometric forecasts of energy sales, comparative cost benchmarking analysis, the calculation of electric generation market concentration indexes, the valuation of the costs and/or benefits of implementing utility projects related to achieving climate protection goals.
