Description:

The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Engineering Intern to join our Engineering Services Unit.

About the NYS Department of Labor Engineering Services Unit:

The Engineering Services Unit plays a critical role in supporting the NYSDOL's mission to protect workers' rights and ensure safe work environments. Our team of engineers provides technical expertise and analysis related to workplace safety and health regulations.

About the Internship -

This internship offers a unique opportunity for a qualified candidate to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You will work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of projects, including:
* Researching and analyzing building codes and safety standards applicable to workplaces.
* Writing and issuing engineering conditions for situations encountered in construction and renovations involving asbestos hazards.
* Reviewing engineered plans for ski lifts, places of public assembly, and powered scaffolds
* Assisting with the review of engineering reports related to workplace safety inspections.
* Using technical software and data analysis tools to support engineering projects.

* Interact with public applicants using the Department's state-of-the-art intake, review, and approval software (MPWR).
* Conducting field visits to workplaces (may require travel) to observe safety conditions and collect data.
* Conducting onsite inspections and testing of completed designs

Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in an accredited engineering program (including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, civil, or environmental) and pursuing a bachelor's degree.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* A working knowledge of technical software and data analysis tools (a plus).
