Description:
Duties will include, but not limited to:
80%:
* Assist regional Ecosystem Health staff on various projects, including wetland delineation, mean high water-level determinations, project compliance, digitizing field data.
* Gain valuable experience in environmental permitting matters, including Article 15, Article 24, SEQR, CLCPA, and resiliency.
* Gain experiences in plant identification, reading of constructions plans, green infrastructure, resilient construction methods, wetland values and functions, stream geomorphology, and habitat protection and, -- how it relates to other NYSDEC programs.
* Gain experience with ArcGIS, Stream Statistics, and other digital tools used by Department Staff.
* Assisting with program outreach.
* Assist with and conduct field visits.
* Assist in taking measurements, photographs and recording findings.
* Assist with documentation for enforcement of New York State Environmental Laws
* Records Management/Paper file management (sort/verify and cull/file).
20%:
* Assist other natural resource programs (Fisheries, Wildlife, Forestry, etc.) on various projects including helping with fish and wildlife species surveys, vegetation surveys, invasive species surveys, and more.
* Gain experience with the full breadth of the Departments Natural Resource Programs.
The intern will also have the opportunity to attend educational seminars and field trips to key environmental sites around our diverse 11-county Region. We work with other state and federal agencies, municipalities, NGOs, and private partners throughout the summer. This internship will provide networking opportunities for new environmental professionals. The student will experience many of the Department's natural resources functions to help make them better poised for entry level positions with the Department in the future. The intern will be expected to work in our Avon, NY Office
