Description:
Description of Work to be Performed: Interns will assist the Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) in the Office of Hearings and Alternative Dispute Resolution (OHADR) with researching legal issues, writing legal memoranda, organizing and reviewing evidentiary hearing records, communicating with litigating parties, and assisting in drafting notices, rulings, recommended decisions, and other documents in various matters before the Public Service Commission and a more limited number of matters before the Board on Electric Generation and Siting.
Individual Internship Assignments: Interns will be assigned to pending administrative cases, including evidentiary and legislative hearings that are being overseen by the ALJs. These cases include: major rate cases; utility mergers/acquisitions; generation and transmission siting and associated environmental impact issues; and tax and financial matters. The cases may be at various stages of the administrative process. The intern will have writing assignments on legal issues; will assist with evidentiary hearings; and may participate in procedural conferences with the parties and meetings with other Department offices and/or other agencies to discuss technical and legal issues. Interns may also observe and assist ALJs in conducting other public hearings.
Other Relevant Information: Qualified interns should have an interest in environmental and energy matters, administrative law, and procedural issues. There may be legal education, networking, and other opportunities with the Department's Office of General Counsel.
