Description:
This internship is limited to a survey of the different programs within DEC Region 7. There will be a large amount of reading and file review during this internship and, afterwards, shadowing staff into the field. Specifically, these two 9-week internships will be split and are broken down into:
* 2 days a week for 9 weeks, reviewing applications using GIS and application tracking software in Division of Environmental Permits
* 6 days of Solid Waste file/regulation review and inspections
* 6 days of DMM file/regulation review and inspections
* 6 days of Water file/regulation review and inspections
* 6 days of DER file/regulation review and inspections
* 3 days of field trips and educational seminars
* 9 weeks of work in Minerals, geo referencing mining plan maps, file review and inspections
For facility inspections, interns are required to have personal protective equipment, steel toed boots, eye protection, ear protection, safety gloves, hard hat, and safety vest. Some of these equipment will be provided but interns would need steel toed boots.
All of our interns will also have the opportunity to attend educational seminars and field trips to key environmental sites around Central NY. We work with city, federal and private partners throughout the summer and provide networking opportunities for young environmental professionals. Students are expected to work out of the Syracuse office full time.
