Description:
Volunteer title: Student Intern-Zen Buddhist Chaplaincy. The intern will provide services as agreed upon by the Deputy Superintendent for Programs (DSP)/Designee and the sponsoring educational institution. The volunteer will: Support a safe environment when working with incarcerated individuals, support respectful interaction with DOCCS personnel and notify appropriate DOCCS personnel of any unusual situations that may arise during their time in the facility, successfully complete tasks and duties agreed upon with teh DSP/designee and the sponsoring educational institution, and abide by HIPAA/FERPA standards as applicable to internship and maintain strict confidentiality regarding all matters realated to their volunteer work. The volunteer must be a registered community volunteer of the facility in which they serve - volunteers providing professional services will be required to provide documentation that they are certified, licensed, and/or otherwise qualified to provide that service. The volunteer will receive a program and security orientation prior to being admitted as a volunteer into the correctional facility. The Supervsior Correctional Facility Volunteer Services (SCFVS) with the assistance of Security personnel from the training office as needed, will provide detailed information regarding Volunteer Standards of Conduct and NYSDOCCS policies and procedures. The SCFVS will provide general supervision of the volunteer; the VSS will provide job specific training and with the Volunteer Services Contact Person and security staff will provide direct assistance to the volunteer for the duration of the interns work assignment in the facility. The volunteer will perform their work assignemnt in an effective manner and comply with all NYSDOCCS and facility rules and regulations for volunteers. The volunteer will maintain a professional, impersonal relationship with incarcerated individuals at all times. The volunteer will recevie specific information concerning their work assignment, the physical arrangement and operation of the facility. The volunteer will be provided with regularly scheduled Refresher Orientations during their service as a volunteer.
