Description:
The Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve (HRNERR) seeks to accept interns to assist with environmental monitoring of freshwater tidal marshes. By participating in this internship, students will gain experience with standard protocols used to collect water quality, nutrient, and weather data. This position may support tasks including how to safely store, handle, and dispose of chemicals, clean glassware, and prepare chemical standards. Students may also learn to identify and quantify various plant species in emergent marsh and submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) habitats. Other potential internship duties include assisting with elevation surveys in marshes, river water sampling (from shore or boat), assisting with laboratory protocols (filtering and weighing), and calibrating instruments. Eligible applicants must be comfortable working in and around water and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
