Proposal Information

Description:

n internship within New York State Department of Labor's Business Administration Security and Emergency Management, specifically in the Office of Emergency Management will provide students with direct day-to-day experience in the fields of emergency management/homeland security within a member agency of the New York State Disaster Preparedness Commission.

Overview of the role of the Department of Labor Business Administration Security and Emergency Management - Office of Emergency Management:
* Conduct emergency planning efforts on behalf of the agency.
* Maintain emergency plans and make improvements as necessary.
* Train employees on their roles during emergencies.
* Coordinate emergency response.
* Ensure the capability and readiness to respond to emergencies.
* Manage the Department of Labor Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program.

Internship Duties
Interns assigned to the Department of Labor Business Administration Security and Emergency Management in the Office of Emergency Management will be expected to:
* Assist with researching and compiling information necessary for the development and maintenance of emergency plans.
* Assist with the review of emergency management plans.
* Assist with the preparation and delivery of training course delivery and administration.
* Assist in the preparedness efforts of the agency.
* Update and maintain emergency equipment inventories.
* Assist with the review and testing of safety and security measures to help ensure the health and safety of people at agency locations.

Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern will have gained exposure into the following:
* Networking opportunities with various key stakeholders in the fields of emergency management and homeland security.
* The phases of emergency management and planning cycle.
* Emergency response training delivery and administration.
* Experience with relevant emergency management standards and best practices.
* Statewide security operations experience.
* New York State Emergency Operations Center activities and organizations.

The hours will be scheduled between Monday - Thursday between 8 AM - 3 PM with an expectation of 10-19 hours per week for each intern.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
* Knowledge of Comprehensive Planning Guide (CPG) 101 - Volume 3
* Understanding of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) - Incident Command System (ICS)
