Description:
The Bureau of Historic Sites, Peebles Island Resource Center (PI), assists all the state-owned historic sites with their collections needs. This internship will be a combination of curatorial, collections management and textile conservation tasks. The focus of the summer will be an inventory, condition assessment and photography of the textile collections at the Senate House Historic Site in Kingston, NY. The intern will be supervised by the Textile Conservator.
Curatorial tasks:
- Evaluate research files and find additional information for missing research areas
- Evaluate the resources in our library and make some suggestions for items that would enhance our research capacity;
Collections Management tasks:
- Fill out catalog information on objects (essentially complete accession forms if not done so already) or update information if needed;
- Capture image(s) of objects;
- Compare and copy information as needed between site and Peebles Island object folders;
- Complete/update database records as needed with information and image(s) gathered during this project
Conservation tasks:
- Condition assessment of textile collections at Senate House (approx.. 1100 items)
- Stabilization of textiles as needed
The timing of the internship would be two days/week on-site at Senate House and two days/week at Peebles Island. Workdays are usually between 8:30 - 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. A range of 8 - 10 weeks is available, between mid-June and mid-August 2022.
