Description:
The NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is the investigative arm of DOCCS, whose mandate is to investigate allegations of criminal activity related to DOCCS and any other wrongdoing within DOCCS. This includes investigations into criminal behavior by DOCCS' inmates, parolees, employees, visitors, volunteers, or contractors; physical or sexual abuse; drug trafficking; contraband possession; staff misconduct and corruption; and suspected terrorist activities. Interns will be assisting investigators with interviews at correctional facilities, gathering of required documents, note taking, preparation and review of reports, and be assigned various tasks to support investigations. Students should be available 8 - 40 hours per week. Students should be junior or senior criminal justice (or related field) undergraduate or graduate students with a major or minor in Inspector General Studies or related courses. Courses in research methods and knowledge of creating spreadsheets would be an asset too.
