Proposal Information

Description:

Interact professionally with sworn and non-sworn members at a variety of levels;
Abide by confidentiality agreements provided by Division of State Police
Under direction of a supervisor:
* Assist Analysts and Investigators in the Criminal Intelligence Section with monitoring social media platforms in a proactive and reactive manner for criminal activity;
* Review newspapers, blogs, current events, and posts for current events, issues or concerns for law enforcement;
* Become familiar with commercially-available tools available at NYSIC;
* Under direction of a supervisor, review social media for threats to law enforcement;
* Under direction of a supervisor, monitor social media during mass gathering events for potential indicators of officer safety or public safety issues;
* Assist NYSIC staff in providing social media data potentially relevant to ongoing criminal investigations, assist with preparation of presentation materials; and,
* Support Criminal Intelligence Section staff as needed - for example, open source research for ongoing projects.

*Prior to beginning an Internship, the student must pass a background investigation. This process could take up to two (2) months to complete. This background will require the student to be fingerprinted for a non-refundable fee of $88.75.
