Proposal Information


Student will assist in the collection, processing, summary, and report writing and presentation on First Episode Psychosis. Internship is 20 hours a week during the regular semester and up to 25 hours in the summer or during semestral breaks. Currently work is performed remotely but student may be called to work on-site anytime.
Skills Needed:
1. Ability to code in SAS, SAS SQL and SQL; knowledge of Excel, Microsoft word
2. Familiarity with Tableau
3. Familiarity with health care data, NY's Medicaid program, Behavioral Health, Managed Care, Value-Based Payment financing
4. Ability to communicate in written and spoken English.
5. Ability to work in a team environment.
Job Duties:
1.Data Processing - Student will systematically check the submission, completion and consistency of First Episode Psychosis report submitted by health plans in a designated mailbox, in a pre-defined template and will communicate to them the need to correct, complete, or resubmit information.
2. Data Collection - Data collection will require student to design a data submission template with corresponding specification and definition of data elements to be collected.
3. Data Management - Data management will require student to test data accuracy and integrity using statistical tests, frequency distributions, trends, and upload data in a database to use for data analytics.
4. Data Analysis - Data analysis tasks will require student to apply basic and/or advanced statistical analytic techniques to the various data sets and assist in the production of reports based upon these findings.
5. Support of Policy - Students may be involved in policy work related to the impact of first episode psychosis on health outcomes, and effects of diagnoses, demographics, access, utilization, costs, and other factors on first episode psychosis.
6. Assist in Qualitative Research Studies - Student may be required to assist with the development and implementation of qualitative research studies such as a policy paper in a peer-reviewed journal. Analysis and presentation of results may be required.
7. Communication and Presentations - Student will assist in webinars and all forms of communication with MCOs to submit reports. Student will design and produce summary reports for OMH leadership/OMH Medical Director/stakeholders for distribution. Student will interact with NY Psych Institute program and medical directors in data collection issues.
8.Data Collection Workflow - Student will coordinate with health plans in managing the workflow from collection, development, QA, to production of the a first-episode database.
9. Application of Programming Skills - Student will prepare SAS codes and tableau visuals for analysis report processing;
10. Ad hoc report processing - Student will respond to adhoc reports/data analyses specific to areas of interests from stakeholders/leadership.
