Proposal Information

Description:

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Intern to work in their Public Information/Press Office for the Spring 2022 semester. This internship will be 3-4 days/ week (22.5 hours-30 hours) during a regular workweek of Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. This will be a paid internship paying $14.87/hour.

Public Information Office:
The Public Information Office is responsible for the development and execution of internal and external communication, public information, and media relations for the Department of Agriculture and Markets. The Press Office Intern will assist the Director and Deputy Director of Public Information with Department communications initiatives, including:
* Developing content for the Department's social media channels, driving audience growth and engagement;
* Assisting in the daily maintenance of the Department website, including posting press releases, updating documents, and creating content
as needed;
* Tracking news clips and compiling daily reports for executive staff;
* Drafting and editing Department communications, including press releases, letters, reports, pamphlets, newsletters, etc;
* Sending press releases and tracking media responses; and
* Assisting in the planning of media events, including making pitch calls and traveling with Commissioner and press office staff as needed.

Preferred skills and qualifications:
* Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills with ability to summarize information succinctly and accurately
* Strong organization skills
* Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
* Creativity, some knowledge of graphic design programs, such as InDesign and/or Publisher is helpful, but not required
* Ability to be flexible and work independently

 

Skills:

Interpersonal communication skills

Exemplary writing and editing skills

Experience using social media platforms

AP style writing is a plus, not required

Knowledge of agriculture a plus
