Description:

**For consideration, please include a cover letter stating interest in interning for the New York State Office for New Americans/ Department of State Language Access Program.
The New York State Department of State seeks a data intern to support with immigration related issues and with a special focus on language access. This intern will work to fullfil the requirements of Executive Order 26.1, the New York State Statewide Language Access Policy which ensures that each executive state agency that provides direct public services offers interpretation services for Limited English Proficient individuals with respect to the provision of services or benefits. Agencies, like the New York Department of State, are also required to translate vital documents, including public documents such as forms, and their instructions, into the 10 most common non-English languages spoken by Limited English Proficient individuals in the State of New York.

The duties and responsibilities of the Language Access Data Analyst will include:
- Monitoring best practices in the delivery of culturally and linguistically responsive services
- Developing statistics on languages spoken by limited English proficient individuals in New York State through use of most recent Census Data
- Engaging with a diverse set of divisions hosted at the New York State Department of State to better serve all new Americans regardless of the language they speak, including creating content to train divisions.

We are seeking one intern for 10-19 hours a week for a period of three months. Office hours are Monday - Friday, from 10am - 5pm. This will be a virtual internship.
