Proposal Information

Description:

This position will fulfill environmental HAB data processing and research needs for the NYSDEC Lake Monitoring section under daily guidance and direction of professional staff.
* This internship will primarily entail data management, analysis, and research such as compilation and analysis of historical data to complete an independent project to answer specific research questions regarding HABs in New York State.
* Daily tasks will include independent computer work, weekly participation in meetings with supervisor to detail progress and collaboratively reach project goals.
* Intern will participate in broader Lake Monitoring section activities such as section meetings, occasional projects to organize and maintain field sampling gear, updates on findings of data analysis and research projects of section staff.
* Intern will participate in occasional online webinars and meetings to learn about current research needs in the study of HABs.
* Intern will assist with tasks related to HAB mitigation pilot studies such as review preliminary sampling results, compile literature on methods in use (such as ultrasonic devices)
* Complete a short report (2-4 pages) about their experience that can help guide others in pursuit of a meaningful internship as well as help the Department evaluate its intern program.
* Typical hours will be 8 am - 4 pm with 30-minute lunch, 2-3 days per week at the DEC Central Office in Albany. Intern will be assigned a desk space and provided with a laptop for use in this program.
