Proposal Information

Description:

The goal of the Internship Program is to provide the student with real-world work experience in the field of their degree.


Duties/Assignments:

*Assist the Unit in which they are assigned with research, presentation preparation and other assignments related to the mission of the section.
*Interact with State Police sworn members and non-sworn members on a variety of levels.
*Follow directives from their mentor.
*Work on special projects by:
*Researching and documenting the application of Criminal Justice theories to the work and duties of the New York State Police.
*Help to research, compile and maintain databases with information pertaining to the section they are assigned.
*Information gathering for up-coming initiatives (crime rates, motor vehicle statistics, etc.)
*Troop and Zone interns will job-shadow employees assigned to different details in the Troop, such as Communications, Traffic, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Forensic Identification Unit, etc.
*Upon completion of the internship, the student will provide a written report on their experience with the New York State Police.

In addition to uploading your resume onto the New York State Student Intern Program portal, a New York State Police Application for Internship, a New York State Police Release of Information form, a letter of recommendation from your school and most recent transcripts must also be submitted. *Prior to beginning an Internship, the student must pass a background investigation. This process could take up to two (2) months to complete.
