Proposal Information

Description:

The Department of Public Service, Office of General Counsel (OGC) is requesting a part time or full-time summer intern for a placement in its Appeals Unit based in Albany. OGC Appeals Unit provides direct and timely assistance to residential and non-residential consumers in resolving disputes with all of the utilities statewide. As part of the day to day operations of OGC, the Appeals Unit is solely responsible for a thorough review of the consumer appeal record and the drafting of the determinations for the Public Service Commission. The final appeal determinations are issued by the Commission each month at a formal public session and have the force and effect of law. The Appeals Unit's work is highly technical, detail oriented and follows statutory, regulatory and case law precedent. Due to the complex nature of these appeals, this work requires a very high level of writing and analytical skills which is best suited for a law student or an attorney. The Appeals Unit is currently supervised by an experienced attorney and would be significantly strengthened with the addition of an intern.
