Proposal Information

Description:

Intern would be tasked with constructing a Geographic Information System (GIS) data layer for Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) and Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) outfall locations in New York State. The GIS layer would then be used as a resource for the public to view CSO and SSO outfall locations on NYSDEC's DECinfo Locator (https://gisservices.dec.ny.gov/gis/dil/). The effort will include reviewing State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permits that contain CSO and SSO outfalls to identify the number of outfalls and their coordinates; reviewing CSO Annual Reports and CSO Long Term Control Plans (LTCPs); and contacting SPDES permit holders to acquire updated information.

The intern would also be tasked with reviewing CSO Annual Reports and extracting and compiling metrics to gauge the effectiveness of municipalities implementation of the CSO Best Management Practices and LTCPs.

During the internship, there will be opportunities to visit waste water treatment plants and waste water infrastructure projects to provide a better basis of knowledge to complete the assigned tasks.

Typical hours and days of operation for the Division of Water are Monday - Friday, from 8:30am-4:45pm. Once a candidate is selected, Division of Water will work with the candidate to determine final work schedule.
