Proposal Information

Description:

* Collect physical and chemical water quality parameters from the Mohawk River and tributaries as part of a 1) Disinfection By-Product Study of water supply reaches of the Mohawk River and 2) Phosphorus loading estimate project in support of the Mohawk River TMDL.
* Conduct monitoring of past and proposed locations of riparian buffer restoration efforts undertaken as part of the Mohawk River Basin Program's Trees for Tribs program. This would include compiling information on plantings completed and proposed under this program since 2011, including quantity and types of trees planted, mapping locations of past and current projects, assessment of riparian buffer restoration location, assessment of species and growth, and assessment of survivability rates (i.e. what species did best, tree tube vs non-tree tube success/failure rates, etc.).
* Process samples, including logging new samples, splitting and shipping water samples, data entry including various types of field data.
* Prepare and maintain field sampling equipment including multi-probe meters.
* Prepare sections of water quality reports about various Mohawk River Basin Projects.
* Attend outreach events to inform the public about Mohawk River Basin water quality.
* Complete a short report (2-4 pages) about their experience that can help guide others in pursuit of a meaningful internship as well as help the Department evaluate its intern program.
* Conduct oneself in a professional manner that reflects positively on SUNY ESF and the Department.
