Description:
Intern would be tasked with updating the Descriptive Data of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant publication. The most recent edition of this document was issued in January 2004. Effort will include review of facility permits, engineering reports, permit applications, and schematics to identify wastewater treatment system unit processes; contacting permitted facilities to acquire updated information; and research in DEC databases. During data collection and evaluation, there will be some visits to treatment plants to provide a better base of knowledge on specific treatment processes and allow for evaluation and classification of the processes.
Upon completion of data collection, various statistical comparisons related to geographical regions, drainage basins, waterbody classification, and treatment processes are completed to include in the final publication.
Typical hours and days for operation in the office are Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:45pm, though some flexibility can be accommodated. Opportunities exist for site visits to municipal wastewater treatment plants to strengthen the intern's understanding of wastewater treatment.
