Proposal Information

Description:

Primary duties include formatting datasets for PFAS in fish to facilitate integration of the data into a multi-state database for the Great Lakes Consortium for Fish Advisories. These data will be used to better understand the occurrence of PFAS in fish on a regional scale. Secondary activities include electronic entry of historical fish contaminants data (PCBs, mercury, and organochlorine pesticides) so that it may be integrated into the Statewide Fish Contaminants Database. These data are used to assess trends in contaminants and inform both policy and health advisory decisions. The intern will make determinations about data quality and reliability to ensure the integrity of the database. Other activities include assisting with various tasks associated with the fish contaminant monitoring program, such as aging of fish scales and sample preparation.

The ability to work with and manage large datasets in MS Excel is required. Experience using R is preferred. The intern must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions with a strict attention to detail.
