Description:

** This internship is approved by Albany Law School as a field placement for academic credit.**

Other Albany Law School students who are not participating in a field placement and students from other law schools may also apply to this internship.

Legal interns at DEC's Office of General Counsel in Albany, New York will provide important support to DEC attorneys by, among other things, organizing discovery documents for enforcement cases and permit hearings; drafting legal papers such as orders on consent, and administrative pleadings and motions; attending Pre-Hearing Conferences in enforcement cases, internal meetings, and meetings with external entities; and generating letters to respondents or permittees. Legal interns also conduct extensive legal research using online resources and assorted treatises and draft memoranda of law.

If the intern is not seeking academic credit, generally, internships are unpaid. However, there may be funding through Federal Work Study or grants for students who are eligible for this funding.

The number of hours worked per week may vary. For Albany Law School Field Placements: approximately 12 hours per week. For Albany Law School work study students: up to 20 hours per week (flexible). For other students: depends on the requirements of the academic program or grant.

Albany Law School students who are interested in applying to this internship as a field placement must also apply through Albany Law School. Other Albany Law School students who are not participating in a field placement and students from other law schools who are interested in applying to this internship should also apply directly to the OGC internship coordinators by sending a cover letter, resumé, unofficial transcript, and a writing sample (5 pages or less, double spaced; an excerpt from a longer document is acceptable) to the following email address: OGCInternshipProgram@dec.ny.gov.
