Description:
The Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Intern to work within the Division of Agricultural Development in Brooklyn, NY. The Fall 2019 Intern will work in Brooklyn with program management to assist in administrating the NYS Fresh Connect Food Box Program. The NYS Food Box Program works to increase access to local, fresh, and affordable produce in low-income marginalized communities.
The mission of the Food Box Program is to build capacity for non-profit organizations who run locally-sourced SNAP eligible food boxes, farm shares, CSAs and farm stands that are serving low-income, priority populations and providing nutrition education.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Conducting field work and site visits across NYC, capturing data and reports from Food Box project sites, maintaining the records in the program databases, research on similar national projects to establish best practices, assisting with federal reporting, answering phone and email inquiries, doing inventory and ordering supplies, and other tasks as assigned by the program manager.
This internship is paid $18.00 per hour and requires a minimum of 10 hours per week up to 20 hours per week. This internship has the opportunity to extend into the spring-summer months. This Student Assistant may work a part-time schedule during the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, weekend hours may be available on occasion.
