Proposal Information

Description:

Intern will have the opportunity to be involved with the NYS DEC's Pollution Prevention Unit that works to advance sustainability within a wide variety of sectors as well as within NYS government.

NYS Environmental Excellence Awards:
The intern will learn about and be involved with an awards program that recognizes NYS organizations for outstanding, innovative and sustainable projects or programs and unique partnerships that are contributing to a healthier environment and economy and serving as models of excellence.
Duties would include:

* Assist with the planning, promotion of and convening the 16th annual NYS Environmental Excellence Awards event.

* Develop ideas to effectively engage potential applicants in the awards program. This could include improving and refreshing the awards webpage, writing engaging case studies etc.

* Conduct research to identify potential applicants for the 2020 awards program.

* Go on site visits to previous award winners to "check in" on how the organization has continued to advance their commitment to sustainability and innovation.

DEC Sustainability:
The intern will learn about and become involved in the DEC Sustainability Team. Specifically, the intern will be given opportunities to "champion" ideas to engage DEC staff in activities or actions that move toward a more sustainable culture. Duties would include:

* Develop creative social media posts, writing short and engaging articles and develop ideas to refresh the Sustainability page on DEC's internal (staff) webpage

* Go on site visits to regional offices in effort to learn more about and help Regional Sustainability Teams move forward with pollinator gardens, waste stream management (light bulbs, Ewaste, batteries), energy efficiencies, EV chargers and other new regional initiatives.
