Proposal Information


Student candidates will learn theory and practices specific to the field of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling (ASAT), following the Therapeutic Community Model. Students will observe and participate in therapeutic groups under the direct supervision of ASAT counseling staff. They will assist staff in completing initial assessments, risk assessments and participate in the development of treatment plans for inmate clients. They will also become familiarized with the Criminal Justice System, from courts, to incarceration and release to the community. They will also develop clinical skills and professionalism while maintaining ethical standards in the field.
