Proposal Information

The Division seeks an intern with an interest in data management and digital government to support several summer term data quality improvement tasks. The Division has developed a relational database management system for tracking annual reports and related data on code enforcement of the 1,600 local government jurisdictions that administer the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code (Uniform Code) and State Energy Conservation Construction Code (Energy Code). The intern will help the division to assess and improve the quality of these records to support better monitoring and execution of key goals and mission.
The position entails the following specific tasks:
(1) Review of annual reports received from 2016 to 2018 for quality assurance. Using a documented procedure and checklist, review annual reports processed by the division for accuracy and completeness of information. Review will entail checking for common kinds of errors, scrutinizing outlier responses, and employing other data cleaning methods. It may also entail direct follow-up with local officials when discrepancies are found that cannot be resolved from the information on hand.
(2) Match personnel listings reported in annual reports with training records.
(3) Collect more restrictive local standards and other pertinent local laws into a database for reference.
(4) Follow up with local governments that have not submitted reports for 2018 to improve response rate through phone and other direct outreach.
(5) Support general office administrative support tasks such as filing records, organizing electronic files, and responding to phone inquiries as directed.
(6) Perform other data curation and review tasks as assigned.
