Proposal Information

Description:

he New York State Department of State (NYSDOS) Division of Local Government Services (DLGS) is a principal resource for local government officials for finding solutions to such issues as basic powers and duties, public works, municipal organization, plan, land use, regulatory controls, and community development. Applicants should have a strong interest in planning and be eager to understand multiple levels of the planning process.

The primary responsibility of the intern will be continuing database development by conducting research, compiling and analyzing data, and supporting DLGS staff in developing new programs to support municipal planning. As assigned, intern collects information on comprehensive plans, zoning, subdivision, site plan, planning and zoning boards, environmental management, capital improvements, transportation, and infrastructure at a municipal level throughout New York State.

Important and Essential Duties:
1. Assist professional staff in research, compiling, and analysis of technical, physical, economic, social and statistical data in the form of reports, databases, graphs, maps and charts; may assist in field investigations and in collecting data.
2. Assist in the preparation of graphic presentations to support projects and programs.
3. Specific research on comprehensive planning in municipalities.
4. Upon completion of the period of internship, presents an oral and/or written statement to DLGS summarizing the work experience.
