Description:
The Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Intern to work within the Division of Agricultural Development. The Student Assistant will work with program management to assist in administrating the New York State Grown & Certified program. NYS Grown & Certified is an agriculture based branding and marketing program that has requirements for food safety and environmental sustainability. Duties include outreach to farmers and producers to discuss the NYS Grown & Certified program, its requirements and benefits, with the objective to grow participation. The Student Assistant will also help encourage farmers to participate in GAP (good agricultural practices) audits and share information about reimbursement, and the opportunities a GAP audit can present. The best candidate is comfortable calling and speaking directly with farmers and composing outreach letters. Other duties may include, following up on incomplete applications, updating applications and helping with newsletter content and social media posts.
This internship is paid $14.02 per hour and requires a minimum of 20 hours per week. This internship has the opportunity to extend into the summer- fall months and offer full time hours up to 30 hours per week. Student Assistants may work a part-time schedule during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
