Description:
The DDPC is a federally-funded NYS agency charged with systems change, capacity-building and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. We develop and demonstrate new service options to improve the quality of life for our target audience. We focus on integrating these options into the current service delivery system in the areas of education, health, housing, employment, quality assurance (protective, self-determination, workforce development), criminal justice, community services, transportation, child care, and recreation. Most of our demonstration projects are with not-for-profit agencies. We require at least a one-year commitment when considering candidates. Prior knowledge of developmental disabilities is not a requirement for internships but do require matriculation in a course of study somewhat related to developmental disabilities or public policy administration
Interns are assigned to committee staff, program development, agency administration, fiscal staff, communications staff and/or interagency activities depending on the current needs of the agency and in concert with DDPC State plan activities. Interns are integral members of our staff and are critical to the success of our work.
