Brooklyn Law School
Description:
Law students will work approximately 15 hours per week in the Brooklyn District Office. The 15-hour schedule could be divided into two or three days depending on class schedules. Law students will be assigned medical-only claims where the injured worker seeks legal advice. Incumbent will review the electronic case folder and contact the claimant for a telephone or in-person interview. After reviewing the case folder and speaking with the claimant, incumbent will consult with a supervising attorney before taking any further action. Further action may include calling or writing to a medical provider, completing a form and submitting it to the board or insurer, contacting the insurer to resolve the issue, or requesting a formal hearing. If a formal hearing is requested, the law student will meet with a supervising attorney to prepare for the hearing. Law students may appear at formal hearings with a supervising attorney present.
