Description:
The Legal Researcher (Student Assistant) provides support to Chief Data Officer (CDO), under the direction of CDO staff. Researches and analyzes existing law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes to identify legal requirements for controlling and protecting New York State data. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures for legal research using computer-based legal resources. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform legal and factual research
· Perform records research regarding data protection and controls
· Identify relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes and other pertinent material
· Organize and analyze information
· Cross-check and validate information
· Prepare written materials
· Prepare correspondence
· Build and maintain databases and files
· Identify, organize and track case files related to data protection and controls
· Review and monitor new and updated laws and regulations
Typical hours and days of operation of the office are 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday excluding State holidays.
