Description:
The student assistant position will be within the NYS Division of Budget (DOB) Business Solutions section, which is part of the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) in the Administrative and General Services Cluster. Division of the Budget (DOB) Business Solutions delivers application technology services that meet DOB's IT business needs. DOB is the primary fiscal advisor to the Governor; developing, negotiating and implementing one of the largest government budgets in the country. The Division's professional staff review and develop recommendations for the Governor on State agencies and municipalities' fiscal needs and prepare the State's Executive Budget.
The student assistant will work with the Applications Analysis and Support and Developer teams to perform a variety of non-programming IT duties such as business analysis, requirements gathering, application maintenance, incident resolution and other application development/support activities.
The position is with a team of IT specialists responsible for the analysis and support (non-programming) of DOB applications. Work will be performed under the direction of experienced staff.
The duties of this position will include the following:
- Perform non-programming tasks to support and enhance DOB applications;
- Perform application testing (e.g., for application software and database upgrades) in a client server: web, BI, SharePoint and Tableau environments;
- Support the DOB SharePoint environment;
- Perform tasks for developing and maintaining visualizations in a Tableau environment;
- Perform data verifications and maintain control tables;
- Document business requirements for changes to existing applications and new applications;
- Document and resolving application issues;
- Resolve incidents in a timely and professional manner; and
- Create work tickets for code changes and testing work tickets.
Minimum Qualifications to be considered for a student internship:
* Must be a US citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
* Must be 18 years of age or older
* Must be currently attending a New York State college, university or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State
* Minimum Sophomore level college student
* Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students)
* Or currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
* Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or equivalent to a C

Strong written/oral communication skills
Experience testing with SharePoint
