Proposal Information

Description:

The Department of Labor's Division of Employment and Workforce Solutions (DEWS) oversees the delivery of employment related services to job seeking customers and businesses through a network of approximately 92 Career Centers across New York State.

The Human Resources Development (HRD) unit is charged with training, support, and capacity building services for the entire workforce system in New York State. HRD assesses information and performance gaps of front-line Career Center staff and works to identify root causes. HRD also proposes, develops, and implements training and technical assistance solutions that solve specific skills and performance gaps. HRD also develops and delivers training across a variety of instructional methods from Instructor-led to Web-based, and eLearning. HRD helps DEWS prioritize workforce learning needs in a way that balances the immediate and long-term needs of workforce professionals serving job seeking and business customers.

The intern will work with HRD's eight staff that design, develop, coordinate, and deliver training and education opportunities to staff in the Career Centers as well as staff in DEWS. HRD coordinates large and small meetings and training events, conferences, and regional sessions. Staff facilitate weekly conference calls with workforce professionals in the Career Center System, produce webinars, prepare presentations, and design training curricula and materials.

The intern will assist with building and expanding a Microsoft Access database to gather critical workforce activities for reporting and special projects. This process would include leaning about each of the activities to ensure the database is designed to gather critical details. The intern would be responsible for training unit staff in use of the database.
