Description:
Overview - The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS or Department) is one of the largest and most dynamic public safety agencies in the country. DOCCS is responsible for the custody of prison inmates and the supervision of parolees. The Department consists of 54 Correctional Facilities, Work Release, Drug Treatment, or Shock Incarceration Facilities, 29,000 employees, 53,000 inmates, 36,000 parolees, and seven regional parole offices. The Crisis Intervention Unit under Special Operations primary role is Hostage Negotiations. Other responsibilies include Disturbance Prevention and/or management, tracking unauthorized groups and gangs and the daily monituring of all 54 facilities. The unit comprises of the Director, Assistant Director, two Senior Investigators and four Investigators who assist and oversee 53 Teams in the field.
Duties - The Intern's primary duty will be to assist the Crisis Intervention Unit with the analysis of electronic and hard copy media related to activities incidents and Trends occurring within the Department's facilities. Interns will have the opportunity to assist with preparation of reports, tours of facilities and the myriad of issues that surface daily in the DOCCS system.
