Description:

The NYS Office of Information Technology Services, Public Safety Cluster is seeking energetic, intelligent team player who will provide immediate value to the organization! We support the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, the New York State Police, the Division of Corrections and Community Services, the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the Office of Victim Services and the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence.

Our systems make use of industry leading technologies to prioritize and preserve the public safety for the citizens of New York State.

The ideal candidate does NOT need to possess expertise with all the relevant technologies but must have a solid foundation in the specific principles and enjoy a challenge!

The New York State Information Technology Services Public Safety Cluster has several immediate openings for software development interns working in an agile development and engineering environment. The technology domains include cyber security, web development, visualization (geospatial, graph/link analysis), and data analytics.

The Information Technology Intern(s) will be in the unique position to gain immediate hands-on experience, by taking on various application development and infrastructure responsibilities. Technologies include IBM BPM, Java, Selenium Web Driver, Oracle database, HTML, JavaScript and more!

Preferred qualifications:

Preferred candidates would be enrolled in Computer Science/Math/Information Science, or related technical discipline and have:

-- Understanding of information management, data modeling, system integration, development methodologies and web technologies
-- Experience with programming languages such as Java, R, C/C++ and/or a scripting language such as shell or Python
¿Client/Server development skills, in a combination of Java, JavaScript/JSON/Ajax, JQuery, HTML, CSS, PHP, Ruby on
Rails and/or ASP.NET
-- Ability to create Unit Test Scripts using Selenium Web Driver, TestNG, JUnit.
-- Basic understanding of SQL to run queries on Oracle databases using Oracle SQL Developer
-- Support the development team by manually testing new builds, recreate defects, and tracking issues
-- Interest in developing skills in various emerging technology platforms such as cyber security, visualization (geospatial, graph/link analysis), and data analytics
-- Monitor web traffic, identify defects and other issues in large reporting technologies like Remedyforce or Splunk

Eligibility Requirements:

Each opportunity has unique requirements, but all interested candidates must be:
-- a US Citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
-- 18 years of age or older
-- a New York State resident or attending a New York State college, university, or graduate program
-- a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year College or University (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students for participation in the Student Intern Program); or a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
-- have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
-- Preferred degree enrollment and/or skills outlined within the individual opportunities

Competitive Salary:

Undergraduate: $18.55/hour
Graduate: $20.81/hour
