Description:
The law student will work closely with the Special Counsel for Ethics, Risk and Compliance on various tasks related to agency-level legal/risk issues and statewide risk issues affecting the enterprise. The right candidate will understand the mission and diverse portfolio of the Department of State, and have a drive to make an impact. Depending on need and the intern's interest, projects will be assigned involving the many diverse divisions in the Department's portfolio. One project may be to analyze certain policies of all DOS divisions to ensure consistency and compliance with state law. Another project may be to research state regulations and determine the appropriate state action given the facts of an issue. There will be opportunities to be involved with administrative hearings, operational tasks for the Administration, to work with other Special Counsels in other agencies in statewide risk mitigation initiatives. Assignments will be determined on pressing matters occurring throughout the state. The intern will work with other attorneys at the Department of State on matters involving internal policies/procedures, litigation, records access, FOIL, and other legal matters, as needed. Days/hours are flexible and can be solidified with the right candidate and based on the amount of credit hours they are seeking. Location is in New York City in the Financial District.
