Description:

The student assistant position is with the managed Network Support and Operations Unit of Enterprise ITS. The responsibilities include network monitoring, network troubleshooting and break fix activities of the ITS Customer network.

- Assists in the design, development, configuration and/or installation of Local Area and Wide Area (LAN/WAN)
networking equipment.
- Configure data communication parameters on Nortel, Cisco, Juniper and other vendor's hardware platforms.
- Work with vendors to address interoperability issues between disparate hardware vendors
- Assists in the review and testing of network designs and changes
- Identify network problems and deficiencies using network monitoring, trending, packet capture, and analysis tools and
applications. Experience with Zenoss Network Monitoring software, Network Instruments Observer, Solar Winds Orion,
CATI, Network General's Infinistream platform, syslog and netflow statistics will be given preference.
- Resolve reported network issues
- Assists with identifying tools and standards, as necessary, to maintain currency with data communications technologies
- Communicate with users and technical peers, as necessary, to respond to network issues.
