Proposal Information

Description:

The Office of Counsel provides legal guidance and services to the OPWDD network on a variety of issues arising from the delivery of supports and services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Issues include consent to treatment, certification/decertification of facilities, service eligibility, guardianships and special needs trusts and Medicaid interpretation/compliance. Attorneys are called upon to draft and review legislation, regulations, contracts, real property transactions, advise on employment matters, participate in administrative hearings and oversee litigation.
Intern duties involve legal research, analysis, and legal writing to support Counsel's Office. Interns may be asked to assist with various assignments and projects as directed by Deputy Counsel and General Counsel.

OPWDD participates in the Federal Work Study program. Please confirm eligibility with Financial Aid. Federal Work Study Regulations permit students to work up to twenty hours per week in any semester in which s/he is regularly enrolled and in session, or for no more than forty hours in any other week.
This position is independent of the Albany Law School Clinical Field Placement and Semester in Practice programs.
