Proposal Information

Description:

As an intern in the Office of Accounting, Audits and Finance, a student may observe and/or participate in work related to:
Conducting Financial examinations of utilities and their affiliates, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, specialized utility accounting, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards and Commission Policies and Practices. These examinations are performed in connection with all types of proceedings or special studies, (such as rate cases, petitions to issue securities, petitions to consolidate operations, prudence reviews, petition to sell assets, etc.) before the Commission or as ordered by the management of the Office of Accounting and Finance.
Tasks associated with this internship may include:
* Auditing Utility financial Statements - including but not limited to Income statements, Balance Sheets, Statement of Cash flow, Annual reports, 10k Filing, Corporate Tax Returns
* Developing Familiarity with Financial Forecast - Familiarity with ratemaking principles, preparation of Cost of Service schedules (expense driven income statements), reconciliations, rate of return mechanics, and other financial analyses.
* Participation in Generic Proceedings- Conducting audits of small companies, financings, and deferral petitions. Applying knowledge of financial, regulatory, economic, and industry characteristics to specific areas of inquiry, considering the implications of alternative approaches and strategies.
* Communicating technical Information - Conveying technical matters in an understandable way with an eye toward the level of detail necessary for the intended audience through emails, memorandums or reports.
* Displaying computer skills - Demonstrating proficiency in computer applications appropriate for assigned projects.
