Proposal Information

Description:

The NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking three student assistants to support
the Division of Agricultural Development's various programs.

Farmer's Market Program: This student assistant position will assist the Farmers Market team with work as part of federal and state programs. Duties may include conducting outreach to farmers and markets, processing applications, maintaining the records in the program database, conducting fieldwork, sending out bulk mailings, preparing statistical data, answering phone and email inquiries, doing inventory, and other tasks as assigned by the program manager.

Grown and Certified Program: This student assistant position will perform numerous tasks related to the New York State Grown & Certified Program verification process. This program is a marketing and promotion brand of the Department, and also a critical designation in multiple food buying programs such as Nourish NY, the NYS 30% Initiative for school lunch, federal program purchasing and New York State agency purchases.

Farm Directory and 30% Initiative Program: This student assistant position will provide support for the data entry functions of the online Farm Directory as required by law and provide support through data management functions of the NYS 30% Initiative for school lunch.

These are temporary hourly, non-competitive class positions located at 10B Airline Drive in Albany, New York. These positions offer the ability to work 20-30 hours/week with a flexible schedule between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Student Assistant is a PEF bargaining-unit represented position with a competitive pay rate of $15.17 an hour.

Agricultural Development:
The Division of Agricultural Development is a dynamic division within the Department of Agriculture and Markets. This Division works to strengthen the viability and raise consumer awareness of New York's food and agricultural industry. The Division focuses on three major areas to achieve this goal: promoting the agricultural community; providing education and assistance to businesses; and overseeing farmers' markets and other initiatives that bring healthy foods into local communities.
