Description:
Typical hours would be between 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Law interns may, through the course of the program: review and organize discovery documents for ongoing litigation, administrative enforcement cases, and permit hearings; draft legal papers such as orders on consent; draft administrative pleadings and motions; attend and participate in pre-hearing conferences in administrative enforcement cases; attend and participate in permit and enforcement hearing proceedings; assist with negotiations; attend internal meetings and meetings with external entities; generate letters to respondents and draft memoranda of law; and conduct extensive legal research using assorted legal resources. Law interns receive feedback and direction from a supervising attorney on all legal work conducted on DEC's behalf.
Interns are offered an opportunity to draft a writing sample related to their work at DEC, which may used by the intern, with DEC approval, as an example of such intern's legal analysis and writing.
